15 Years Later…

20131205-094938.jpg
I have hung my daughter’s wedding gown in the gallery to honor her 15th anniversary. This dress was remade from her 2 Grandmothers gowns. The satin was my Mom’s and the Irish Lace was my husbands mothers.

We did many fittings, added a bit here and a bit there. I added all the beading and lace design work…and I can remember working on this gown for months! Each piece Hand-stitched with anticipation of my daughter’s wedding day. It was truly an amazing moment watching her walk down the aisle in a dress with so many special moments and memories stitched into it.

Her two daughters came to see it and they both exclaimed that they wanted to wear that dress someday…time will tell!

Transforming…

‘Take what shows up on your plate

and transform it until it feeds you.’

    — Ram Dass

Spring is not too far away and the snow has melted…the days are getting longer…and people are coming out into the light and smiling more. Our surroundings are being transformed.

Doing a bit of transforming on the Clara Cloth .

    My 'Eye's of March'

Jude’s eyes have inspired me to put an eye in this…maybe a portal from another time?

I love hand washing…and rack drying. The studio is so dry these days that they dry in no time. These little bits of colored cloth will be transformed into something FUN to wear..

    Washed and Drying

I’m thinking, a short kimono style jacket, inspired by this one that I knit about 10 years ago.

Redoing…

I learned how to embroider from my Grandmother Clara…she was a prize-winning stitcher with strict rules of how to do things…fingers just so…needle must enter here…etc. She taught me the “right way” to do stitching. NOW…I’m doing it my way! I have dozens of her pieces. This one was a plain white linen with her signature crochet edging.

Some dyeing to update

I stained the edging with “Color Wash” by Adirondack…it is a Tim Holtz product and works well on fabric. This is a mossy color…Mushroom. I am attaching a foundationless weaving to it and may use it on a side table….or maybe put it on a jacket. Who knows.

Clara's linen getting a new Life

I still have to turn under all the edges and do a lot of stitching on it. ..but it’s starting to come alive.

“something about all this ReDoing..that is very
energetic, very really, forgiving of them for their
rules and us for not going by those rules. the
outcome is beauty and happiness.
i also love though that you care Full y kept her
signature edging. i think she would approve.
happiness here.”

“you have preserved her special touch and added your own. honor and journey combined. …now you are walking together”

I like these thoughts…and I know that Clara would too.

Hearts within a Heart…

Write it on your heart that ‘every day is the best day of the year’.                        -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Most of us in Jude’s class have been making hearts to hang for the month of Feb. Mine keeps going through transformation…here’s what it looks like today…in honor of Valentines Day.

Hearts within a Heart

There are dozens of beautiful Hearts (human and cloth) around the globe today. We are forming a circle of togetherness and encouragement that is strong yet flexible.  A wonderful group of clothmates.

Yesterday my house was filled with Love and Celebration…we were celebrating birthdays for Grandchildren and Accomplishment for my Son passing his Electrician’s test.

a Toast to Success!

Today the Sun is shining and we are finally getting some melting of the piles of snow that have been lingering. The slant of the light is beautiful coming in the windows

A glimmer of Spring

I did a little bit of weaving with wool and I have to say I love how it feels. It is so buttery and soft…the stitches glide through and now I’m thinking of trying some bigger pieces. The ideas are flowing like crazy. Hummmm, what to try next.

Ancestral Sphere Project

The Ancestral Sphere Project....#1 of 3This mosaic piece  was part of a commission that I did about 10 years ago for a temple as part of their restoration project. It is one of three spheres that are exchanged occasionally. They are located on top of the arche which is above the Torah. It was a wonderful project that I had the honor of working on.  People in their congregation donated family treasures for me to use as part of the mosaic piece. I surrounded those items with semi-precious stones, geodes, crystal points, then created a hammered copper collar for the sphere to sit on. It was a project that was amazing to work on.

The pieces of jewelry…… watches, wedding bands, pins, mementos, metals, cuff links, even dog tags…..were given with such love; each piece holding decades of special memories  for the families. I was deeply touched and affected by the stories that were shared. Each item was filled with the energy of the ancestor who once wore the item. I was lead…sometimes emotionaly….to place a piece in a certain spot; not knowing why one item had to be near another item…. only later learning that they were related to each other.  I was invited to be part of a ceremony during one of the congregations religious holidays and was delighted to see the response from everyone. They freely shared their delight and told me of the coincidences of the alignment of some of the pieces.  It was an amazing experience… like no other…..and I feel blessed to have been  part of it.
