I have hung my daughter’s wedding gown in the gallery to honor her 15th anniversary. This dress was remade from her 2 Grandmothers gowns. The satin was my Mom’s and the Irish Lace was my husbands mothers.
We did many fittings, added a bit here and a bit there. I added all the beading and lace design work…and I can remember working on this gown for months! Each piece Hand-stitched with anticipation of my daughter’s wedding day. It was truly an amazing moment watching her walk down the aisle in a dress with so many special moments and memories stitched into it.
Her two daughters came to see it and they both exclaimed that they wanted to wear that dress someday…time will tell!
The easel is getting some use.
I’m working on the background of a new painting. I’m liking the colors, summery and cool. ..unlike the weather here! It’s hot and extremely humid today.
Stitching class is this afternoon in the Fiber studio.
Thankfully the two studios are on the same floor now! I can wheel things from one to the other without needing to get on the freight elevator. That makes it so much easier than before. Everything is falling into place….Nice!
I’ve been busy all along working on many creative things!
It was nice to have a break from blogging but it’s time to start again. So here I am continuing my work on the Diaries Cloth. I’ve had the pleasure of joining a wonderful group of gals over at Jude’s . We have been stitching slowly and enjoying the group energy!
I’ve used it a few times as a meditation cloth…it has a wonderful, calm energy.
Who knows…it may end up as a Kimona that I’ll wear!
This was an old, white linen shirt that I acquired somewhere (?) . It was calling out for a makeover so I tied up a few areas into little bundles and gave it a dip in the dye-p0t.
I put these threads into a walnut dyepot to tone down the brightness in them.
I have also moved my studio this past season so things have been a bit topsy turvy around here.

March 20: The Sun enters Aries
The Sun enters Aries, an event that marks the Spring Equinox for those above the equator, and the Autumnal Equinox for those below. Each year at this time, we begin a new season and a new journey. It’s time to take action! Begin something, whether you want to start a business, embark on a different career path or simply turn over a new leaf. If you can draw on the courageous and pioneering attributes of this sign, you’ll have everything you need to make a fresh start!
So think about what you want to begin and Go for It! Now is the time to Dream.
‘Take what shows up on your plate
and transform it until it feeds you.’
— Ram Dass
Spring is not too far away and the snow has melted…the days are getting longer…and people are coming out into the light and smiling more. Our surroundings are being transformed.
Doing a bit of transforming on the Clara Cloth .
Jude’s eyes have inspired me to put an eye in this…maybe a portal from another time?
Since the beginning of the “Contemporary Boro Weaving class” I have been doing this sampler as a way to practice my weaving. It was going to be just squares…but one day…a house appeared! The roof is made from a silk tie. I still have a lot more stitching to do, but it’s on it’s way.
Then I made a full moon from blues that I had in my stash.
When I put them together they look like this:
That is ONE BIG MOON! A very small section of a “Human Wrapping Cloth” ….or a “Life Coat”. Not sure yet what it will become…but that is the fun part of the process. To listen and Do. Stitch by Stitch
I’m thinking that I’ll probably add many other elements around the house….ones that relate to ‘Life’…..trees, birds, flowers, clouds, beasts, fences…it will evolve.
“Have nothing in your house that you do not Know to be Useful and believe to be Beautiful” — William Morris
I’ve been drawn to the making of ‘slow cloth’
stitches… remnants… threads…
and then I learn…there is a movement of women who are doing the same thing. Honoring the cloth…it’s past…its stories, and creating new stories with the fragments of all.
…Making Spirit Cloths…
Here are some of the small pieces that I’ve been working on for the past few months.
What is it about the thrill of seeing a pile of work….I guess the feeling of accomplishment, satisfaction for a job well done.
Hours of stitching time compacted into one small stack!
Now it’s time for Waiting….to Listen to the Whispers of the Cloth
And what is life? A crazy quilt; Sorrow and joy, and grace and guilt, With here and there a square of blue For some old happiness we knew; And so the hand of time will take The fragments of our lives and make, Out of life’s remnants, as they fall, A thing of beauty, after all.
(Excerpt from “A Crazy Quilt” by Douglas Malloch)
Whether it is the subject of money or lack of it, or health or lack of it, or a relationship or the lack of one—always, when you feel good, you are in the place of attracting that which you are wanting.
— Abraham Hicks
I have been thinking about my creative business in a different way and learning how to build an on-line presence since Feb of 2010. I am learning that “state of mind” and intention and how we think is the key factor in having success. That being said…..it’s not easy!
There are days when it’s just not flowing. Some days I just can’t wrap my brain around the dashboards and the widgets and the…..ugh, you get the idea.
I have, however, been very productive with the hands-on part of my Artsy World. That has been flowing and I have been adding classes to my usual schedule.
Art Life is Good…the rest…well, I have begun.
I am in a place of attracting that which I want.
I’ll be taking small steps…
Think Big…Dream Big…Go for It…We Deserve it…We Can Do It!
Here’s another journal page that was a turning point for me. It made me realize how important it is to begin to “Follow your Bliss”. We must decide exactly what it is that we want and then begin to do it….it doesn’t have to be perfect. Just start!
“Follow your bliss. If you do follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while waiting for you, and the life you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in the field of your bliss, and they open the doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be. If you follow your bliss, doors will open for you that wouldn’t have opened for anyone else.” Joseph Campbell
Today is the day that I am putting my plan in motion. My goal for 2010 was to Begin create an online presence and to uplevel my creative business. I am now ready to do just that. I have been studying the Uplevel your Business e-course with Christine Kane and am currently enrolled in Kelly Rae Roberts Flying Lessons e-course. They have given me the know-how to get this blog started and begin my online journey.
I am takeing action…..imperfect action….and that’s okay.
Last year I had to move my studio from a place I had become very “comfortable” with. Having to find a new space was huge at the time…….but in hindsight it was just what I needed. I am now in a great old building filled with many other artists and have made some wonderful new friends. Being around all that creative energy has allowed my own creative juices to explode. I am now accountable to others and I want to try new things and push myself a bit more. It has been a great Beginning.
I have lots of ideas that I will be exploring in the next few months. I welcome you to explore with me and together we will become Bigger.
