I’ve been busy all along working on many creative things!
It was nice to have a break from blogging but it’s time to start again. So here I am continuing my work on the Diaries Cloth. I’ve had the pleasure of joining a wonderful group of gals over at Jude’s . We have been stitching slowly and enjoying the group energy!
I’ve used it a few times as a meditation cloth…it has a wonderful, calm energy.
Who knows…it may end up as a Kimona that I’ll wear!
This was an old, white linen shirt that I acquired somewhere (?) . It was calling out for a makeover so I tied up a few areas into little bundles and gave it a dip in the dye-p0t.
I put these threads into a walnut dyepot to tone down the brightness in them.
I have also moved my studio this past season so things have been a bit topsy turvy around here.
I have finished working on the bag to hold my new Gaian Tarot Cards. The stitches seemed to fly onto the cloth…no thought involved…no decisions to make…just stitching.
This is the perfect size to carry around.
The moon was a discharge done in Sun, Moon and Stars. I put a bit of cotton fill to give it a Puff effect.
Now I’m stitching a tie to use as a draw-string and that will finish it off!

“There are as many different worlds as there are perceivers or Beings or individuals. You are not here to create one world where everyone is the same, wanting and getting the same. You are here to be that which you want to be, while you allow all others to be that which they want to be.”
I’ve done a bit of patching and mending on this cloth. The background has been distressed with inks, paint, coffee, tea, wine, and even a bit of chocolate smudged in.
Next…….I will stitch many stitches to give this cloth Life…It’s off to a good start.
Jude’s Boro Weaving class has come to an end. Now I will continue to work on the dozen or so pieces that I have started. Some will be put into large bed sized quilts…others will be wall hangings, pillow covers, a jacket and a clutch. I have even started a stuffed beast!
So now that Spring is around the corner…let’s celebrate beginnings…and continuings.
- We have many layers, may shades, many moods.. fascinating creatures we are, with oceans inside of us and many poems waiting to be awakened from their deep slumbers.
Till next time….Shishi
Since the beginning of the “Contemporary Boro Weaving class” I have been doing this sampler as a way to practice my weaving. It was going to be just squares…but one day…a house appeared! The roof is made from a silk tie. I still have a lot more stitching to do, but it’s on it’s way.
Then I made a full moon from blues that I had in my stash.
When I put them together they look like this:
That is ONE BIG MOON! A very small section of a “Human Wrapping Cloth” ….or a “Life Coat”. Not sure yet what it will become…but that is the fun part of the process. To listen and Do. Stitch by Stitch
I’m thinking that I’ll probably add many other elements around the house….ones that relate to ‘Life’…..trees, birds, flowers, clouds, beasts, fences…it will evolve.

I have been working on my Winter Cloth during these days of freezing, snowy Winter weather. It is slow…meditative…inward. January is good for this.
This was inspired by Jude of Spirit Cloth. http://spiritcloth.typepad.com/spirit_cloth/#tp She has been an inspiration to me…the way she puts her fabrics together…her stitching…her art quilts…amazing!
Tomorrow is the start of her class “Contemporary Boro Workshop” which I will be a part of. I am doing the preliminary work from her video class “Cloth 2 Cloth” and this is a picture of the woven squares that I’ve done so far.
This is the first. It is the backside of a fabric to give a softer look. Other layers will be put on it with threadwork on top of that.
I will baste this together and then it will be ready for the next step.

I’ve been drawn to the making of ‘slow cloth’
stitches… remnants… threads…
and then I learn…there is a movement of women who are doing the same thing. Honoring the cloth…it’s past…its stories, and creating new stories with the fragments of all.
…Making Spirit Cloths…
Here are some of the small pieces that I’ve been working on for the past few months.
What is it about the thrill of seeing a pile of work….I guess the feeling of accomplishment, satisfaction for a job well done.
Hours of stitching time compacted into one small stack!
Now it’s time for Waiting….to Listen to the Whispers of the Cloth
And what is life? A crazy quilt; Sorrow and joy, and grace and guilt, With here and there a square of blue For some old happiness we knew; And so the hand of time will take The fragments of our lives and make, Out of life’s remnants, as they fall, A thing of beauty, after all.
